Creative Zen X-Fi is Now Official

Friday, July 18, 2008

A few weeks ago I mentioned that Creative was working on a new Zen with Wi-Fi capabilities – and what do you know, it's now official! Enter the Creative Zen X-Fi, a Wi-Fi enabled PMP that comes with MSN and Yahoo! instant messaging clients. Like the previous Zen model, the Zen X-Fi has a 2.5-inch display with 240 x 320 pixel resolution and 16 million colors. Its dimensions are 83 x 55 x 12.8 mm.

The navigation system will not be the same as in the older version. It will have a sort of mobile phone keypad for typing messages. The Zen X-Fi will support external memory via SD cards. Though I’m wondering if that’ll be necessary, considering they’re available in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB models.

The Zen X-Fi supports JPEG, BMP, GIF, TIFF, PNG for images; AAC, Audible, MP3, WMA, WAV for audio; and DivX, MPEG-4, Motion-JPEG, WMV, and XviD formats for video playback. Other features include a voice recorder, FM radio and a built-in speaker.

The Zen X-Fi costs around Rs 6235 ($145), Rs 8987 ($209) and Rs 10,922 ($254) for the 8GB, 16GB and 32GB models.
